12 Day Itinerary for Alpamayo (Los Cedros) Trek

Day 1. - We meet at the Lima Airport, collect our luggage and take a taxi through the busy streets of Lima to the Hotel Indiana.

Day 2. - We enjoy 8 hours of Peruvian scenery as we wind our way North East to 3100 meters above sea-level where the town of Huaraz, home to 70,000, is nestled between the Cordillera Blanca (white range) and the Cordillera Negra (black range). Arrive that evening unload and unwind at the hotel.

Day 3. - After breakfast we take brief tour of Huaraz, review your itinerary, sort through your gear, and then spend the rest of the afternoon visiting ruins and getting aquainted with the area.

Day 4. - After breakfast we leave for a 5 hour acclimatization day hike to the turquoise waters of the Laguna Churup.

Day 5 - Leave Huaraz early in the morning for Hualcayan where you'll meet your donkeys, load your equipment, and begin your trek. Hike 4 hours to Huishcash, located 4000 meters above sea level!

Day 6- Six hour hiking day, taking you to your highest camp on the route at 4500 meters. Pass some beautiful galcier fed lakes, over the Osoruri pass (4850 meters), and then drop down to the camping site on the other side.

Day 7 - A longer days walk then the previous will take you from your Osoruri camp to a place called Jancarurish, where you'll catch your first breathtaking glimpse of the north face of Alpamayo. You'll leave the Cedros valley this day, have a layover at your camp the following day to really soak in the views, then get back on your way on day 9.

Day 8 - Well deserved rest day with optional hikes & exploration, with the lake of Jancarurish a short walk away for great views and sweet serenity.

Day 9 - 2 high passes to navigate will take you out of the Alpamayo valley and into Huillca valley, a notable area of agricultural activity. We'll set up camp near the grazing alpaca herds and the homes of the indiginous farmers who care for them.

Day 10 - One more pass at 4600 meters will expose the lush Jancapampa valley, covered in the native quenoal tree which grows as high as the highest vegetation found in the Himalaya range. Lunch at a lake called Sactaycocha often lends views of the resident ducks and geese, and then camp in the fertile valley still awards a vista of the glaciers and waterfalls flowing from Pucajirca.

Day 11 - The walk out to Pomabamba starts today and your trek will soon be only a fabulous memory! Pass through a few villages then meet your transport in Pomabamba for the ride back to Huaraz. Cross the Andes once again, this time the easy way, and shower up and shave for a celebration banquet that evening!

Day 12 - Bus from Huaraz to Lima and catch your flight home or carry on to your next adventure!

9 Day Itinerary for Chavin Trek

Day 3. - After breakfast we take brief tour of Huaraz, review your itinerary, sort through your gear, and then spend the rest of the afternoon visiting ruins and getting aquainted with the area.

Day 4. - After breakfast we leave for a 5 hour acclimatization day hike to the turquoise waters of the Laguna Churup.

Day 5 - Head out for the small village of Olleros where we meet up with our llamas. After loading them with our supplies we head off camping that evening near a scenic lake.

Day 6- Hike on up and over the high pass keeping our eyes open for the rare Andean Condor. We camp that night on the other side of the pass.

Day 7 - Continue on down following the ancient yet still in-tact Inca trail system. Around noon we arrive at the Chavin ruins where we spend the afternoon exploring the temples and ancient courtyards. That night we camp near the banks of the Huari River.

Day 8 - Get picked up and drive the scenic route back over the Cordillera stopping for lunch at the Olympic pass where we will be treated to stunning views of Huascaran mountain, Peru’s highest peak. That night we are back in the hotel in Huaraz for a celebration banquet and much deserved hot showers!

Day 9 - That morning you'll have time to wander around Huaraz, taking photos or buying last minute gifts for family and friends. Depart for Lima around 11:00am, arriving at the airport (or your hotel) by about 8pm.

11 Day Itinerary for Santa Cruz
Day 1. - Arrive in Lima, meet Skyline Representative at the airport. Collect baggage and head to a hotel for the evening in Lima.

Day 5. - Depart from Huaraz and drive to the small village of Cashapampa to meet your donkeys and begin your trek up the beautiful Santa Cruz Valley. Hike about 4 hours before setting up camp and settling in for the evening in an area called Llamacorral.

Day 6. - Continue hiking up the valley 5-7 hours towards the first pass of the trek (Punta Union 4750 meters). Camp before the pass near the popular Alpamayo base camp. Optional trip up to see the base camp.

Day 7. - Hike up and over Punta Union and descend to about 4200 meters where a nice camp awaits. Hiking time, 6-7 hours.

Day 8. - Continue your descent towards the town of Vaqueria, then cut southeast on the trail at Colcabamba. Enter the Ulta valley and sleep before ascending to the second pass. Hiking time, 5-6 hours.

Day 9. - Hike up and over the pass then descend to a beautiful campsite on the other side. Hiking time 5-6 hours.

Day 10. - Enjoy your last morning at camp then pack up and hike out to meet your transport at the road. Transfer to Huaraz for the well deserved warm shower and celebration banquet (a traditional Peruvian Pachamanca)

Day 11. - Spend the morning in Huaraz and take an afternoon bus back to Lima, arriving about 9 pm.

18 Day Itinerary Huayhuash Trek

Day 5. - Leave Huaraz for the town of Llamac, a ride that lasts about 5 hours. Day hike option or explore the town. Altitude of Camp: 3300 meters.

Day 6. - Llamac to Matacancha by way of Pocpa. Duration: 5-6 hours. Altitude of Camp: 4200 meters

Day 7. - Matacancha to Laguna Mitacocha over the Cancanpunta pass. Duration: 5-6 hours. Altitude of Camp: 4150 meters.

Day 8. - Laguna Mitachocha to Laguna Carhuacocha. Two options for the route, a gradual easy pass on the main trail or an off-trail adventure on steeper terrain with a beautiful lake and a high rocky pass. Duration: 5-8 hours. Altitude of Camp: 4180 meters.

Day 9. - Rest day at Laguna Carhuacocha. One of the more beautiful vistas of all the campsites in the Huayhuash, also a great place to fish, take a day hike to one of the lakes under Jirishanca, visit with the locals, or rest!

Day 10. - Laguna Carhuacocha to Huayhuash. Most people take the off trail route passing three differently colored lakes and winding below the peaks of Yurupaja and Siula. There is an option to follow the donkeys up a more gradual and less scenic pass and re-convene in the camp of Huayhuash. Duration: 5-8 hours. Altitude at Camp: 4330 meters.

Day 11. - Huayhuash to Viconga. Duration: 5-6 hours. Altitude of Camp: 4400 meters.

Day 12. - Viconga to Guanacpatay. You’ll hike over the highest pass in the Huayhuash circuit, reaching 5000 meters of altitude. A beautiful side trail is passable on foot while the donkeys follow a different trail, taking you just below a glacier then down to camp. Duration: 5-7 hours. Altitude at Camp: 4200 meters.

Day 13. - Guanacpatay to Huatiac OR to Laguna Sarapo. An off trail option over the San Antionio pass and down into the gorgeous valley housing Laguna Sarapo, or descending to Huallapa and back up to a camp below the Tapush pass called Huatiac. Duration: 5-8 hours. Altitude of Camp: 4300 meters.

Day 14. - Huatiac to Laguna Jahuacocha over the Tapush pass. Duration: 6 hours. Altitude of Camp: 4060 meters. (Or Rest day in the Sarapo area)

Day 15. - Rest Day at Laguna Jahuacocha. (Or Sarapo to Huatiac)

Day 16. - Laguna Jahuacocha to Llamac over the Pampa Llamac pass. Duration: 5 hours. Altitude of Camp: 3300 meters. (Or Huatiac to Jahuacocha).

Day 17. - Jahuacocha to Llamac, early in the morning. Pick up in Llamac and return to Huaraz for a well deserved shower and celebration banquet.

Day 18. - Last minute shopping before embarking on our return trip to Lima at 10:00am

14 Day Trek / Mountain (Quilquihuanca / Ishinca) Cooperative

Day 1 - Morning arrival in Lima. Pick up at the airport by Skyline staff and transport to the bus station and on to Huaraz. (This is an 8 hour journey up into the Cordillera). That night settle in at the lodge and have a welcome banquet.

Day 2. - Meet at the Skyline office to discuss itinerary, answer questions, sort and finalize payment, then take an afternoon walk up to the Ruins of Wilkahuain to begin your acclimitization. Evening is preparation for the expedition phase at your lodge.

Day 3. - Morning trip to the market to buy food and supplies for the trip. Afternoon is food packing and gear sorting. Evening on the town!

Day 4. - Day hike up to Lake Churup. Camp near base or back in town, depending upon acclimatization

Day 5. - Begin hiking up the Quilquihuanca. Camp near fork in the valley.

Day 6. - Hike to the base of the pass and camp.

Day 7. - Hike up and over the pass and camp near the Cojup valley head. That afternoon, meet resupply with new food ration and mountaineering gear.

Day 8. - Hike up and establish “Base Camp” at the foot of Ishinca. Begin the mountaineering progression that evening.

Day 9. - Mountaineering Skills day on glacier

Day 10. - Mountaineering Skills / Summit

Day 11. - Summit / Skills

Day 12. - Skills / Rest day. Move to valley floor to camp

12 Day Trek (Los Cedros) Cooperative

21 Day Itinerary Huascaran Climb (with Ishinca and Tocllaraju)

Day 1. - We meet at the Lima Airport, collect our luggage and take a taxi through the busy streets of Lima to the Hotel Indiana.

Day 2. - We enjoy 8 hours of Peruvian scenery we wind our way north east to 3100 meters above sea-level where the town of Huaraz, home to 70,000, is nestled between the Cordillera Blanca (white range) and the Cordillera Negra (black range). Arrive that evening unload and unwind at the hotel.

Day 3. – Meet at the Skyline office to review your itinerary, look at maps, finalize trip. Spend the rest of the day visiting nearby ruins and touring the city.

Day 4. - After breakfast we leave for a 5 hour acclimatization day hike to the turquoise waters of the Laguna Churup.

Day 5. - Ice climbing at a nearby glacier to test out your equipment, review some basic climbing techniques and glacier travel skills. Acclimatize during the fun, Pastoruri is 5000m

Day 6. - Pack your bags! We pack up our gear and drive up to the small mountain village of Pashpa where the trail to the Ishinca basecamp begins. We'll load the donkeys and begin the 8 mile hike to the top of the Ishinca Valley where we will make our base camp at around 4100 m.

Day 7. - Summit Day on Ishinca (5540m)! Alpine start, leaving camp at 4:00am. You'll pick your way through the delicate Andean tundra and gain the glacier around sunrise. Once on the glacier, we wind our way through some impressive crevasses up to the high saddle then follow the summit ridge to the top. Estimated summit time is 1:00pm
and return to base camp by 6:00 p.m.

Day 8. - Rest day (day hike or skills options)

Day 9. - Taking our essentials we leave for the high glacier camp of our final mountain Toclliaraju. It usually takes 6 hours to reach the camp. Our camp, just under 5000 meters, is perched on the glacier directly under Toclliaraju’s impressive west face.

Day 10. - Another early start! We wake ate 12:00 midnight and after a light breakfast depart for the summit at 2:00am. We work our way across the col and begin the assent up the north ridge. Things get steeper as we climb, with the last 70m being the most exciting! We return to high camp at 2:00pm and after a rest and some hot soup continue the descent to base camp for a well-deserved dinner.

Day 11. - We sleep in until 9:00 then wake to a delicious pancake breakfast before packing up camp and loading the donkeys for the descent down to Huaraz arriving early afternoon. Check into our Hotel and shower. Dinner that night is at one of the local restaurants.

Day 12. - Rest day in Huaraz. Options to go biking, rock climbing, or just hang out and check your email!

Day 13. - Leave for the town of Musho around 10am after picking up fresh supplies. Load the donkeys and hike to the Base Camp of Huascaran.

Day 14. - Ascend on to Camp One, located on the glacier.

Day 15. - Continue up to Camp Two, in the col between Huascaran Norte and Sur.

Day 16. - SUMMIT DAY! Again we start early leaving our camp around 2:00am and ascend to the summit arriving back at our camp around 2:00pm where after a break we continue to descend to Camp One.

Day 17. - Weather day, additional summit opportunity or rest day.

Day 18. - Descend to Camp One

Day 19. - Continue to descend to the trail head and return to Huaraz that evening for dinner.

Day 20. - A day to shop, recover in town, or choose another day activity (if you still have energy!) That evening our Celebration Banquet will take place in a tradional Peruvian shelter. The Pachamanca (the meal) is something you won't ever forget!

Day 21 – Head back to the low lands (Lima) at 10:00am, arriving in Lima at 5:00 PM .

Day 2. - We enjoy 8 hours of Peruvian scenery as the bus winds its way north east to 3300 meters above sea-level where the town of Huaraz, home to 70,000, is nestled between the cordillera Blanca (white range) and the Cordillera Negra (black range).Arrive that evening unload and unwind at the hotel.

Day 3. – Meet at the Skyline office to review your itinerary, look at maps, finalize trip. Spend the rest of the day visiting nearby ruins and touring the city.

Day 4. - After breakfast we leave for a 5 hour acclimatization day hike to the turquoise waters of the Laguna Churup.

Day 5. - Ice climbing at a nearby glacier to test out your equipment, review some basic climbing techniques and glacier travel skills. Acclimatize during the fun, Pastoruri is 5000m

Day 6. - Pack your bags! We head out past the beautiful Llanganuco lakes and on to the trailhead where we load our donkeys and ascend to the Pisco Base Camp.

Day 7. - Continue up to the High Camp located at the very foot of the glacier. That night we prepare for the following days summit climb.

Day 8. - Summit day! We wake at 2:00am and after a light breakfast depart for the summit at 4:00am. Around 10:00am we arrive at the summit and discover why everyone talks about the view! We return to our camp around 2:00pm and continue on back down to the Base Camp.

Day 9. - Hike out and set up camp near the trail head. Rest, Relax, and enjoy a delicious Asado (BBQ!)

Day 10. - After a short bus transport to the Chopicalqui trail head, begin the assent up past some old glacier remnants and on up to the Moraine camp (4900m).

Day 11. - Press on up to the High Camp located high on the glacier.

Day 12. - Summit Day!! Wake up at 1:00am and depart for the summit at 3:00am. Wel'll work our way up the massive southern ridge past beautiful gaping crevasses and on to the summit at last! Return to Morraine camp for the night.

Day 13. - Pack up camp and descend down to the winding road which takes us back to Huaraz. Stop for lunch and the Llanganuco Lakes. Check back into your Hotel for much-needed showers and our Celebration Banquet!

Day 14. - Last minute shopping for family and friends before departing for Lima at 10:00am arriving at the airport at 5:00pm.

Day 10. - Summit Day!!! Depart from camp at 3:00am and head to the steep summit wall, which offers 360m of fun technical climbing to the summit.

Day 11. - Rest Day

Day 12. - Summit day on nearby Quitaraju (6100m) which offers the same steep technical terrain as Alpamayo.

Day 13. - Descend back to the Base Camp.

Day 14. - Hike out returning to Huaraz around 4:00pm. Check into our Hotel for hot well-deserved showers. Meet again for the Celebration Banquet.

Day 15. - Last minute shopping for family and friends before departing for Lima at 10:00am arriving in Lima at 5:00pm.

17 Day Itinerary for Toclliaraju (with Urus and Ishinca)

Day 3. - Meet at the Skyline office to review your itinerary, look at maps, finalize trip. Spend the rest of the day visiting nearby ruins and touring the city.

Day 4. - After breakfast we leave for a 5 hour acclimatization day hike to the turquoise waters of the Laguna Churup.

Day 5. - Ice climbing at a nearby glacier to test out your equipment, review some basic climbing techniques and glacier travel skills. Acclimatize during the fun, Pastoruri is 5000m

Day 6. - Pack your bags! We pack up our gear and drive up to the small mountain village of Pashpa where we will load the donkeys and begin the 8 mile hike to the top of the Ishinca Valley to establish our base camp (4100 m).

Day 7. - Summit Day! Urus 5440m Alpine start leaving camp at 4:00am. We work our way up the steep moraine to where the glacier starts. There we stop and put on crampons, harnesse,s and rope up. The summit still towers high above. We press onward and upward reaching the summit around 11:00 am. Return to base camp for a well-earned dinner and sleep!

Day 8. - Rest day. (Rock climbing or rappelling options!)

Day 9. - Move up to the high camp of Ishinca, 4800m, set camp and get ready for the next days climb.

Day 10. - Summit Day! Nev. Ishinca (5530m) Another Alpine start - 3:00am waking and leaving at 4:00. Ishinca's summit push is about 2 hours longer then Urus'. We pick our way through the delicate Andean tundra and gain the glacier around sunrise. Once on the glacier, we wind our way through some impressive crevasses up to the high saddle then follow the summit ridge to the top. Estimated summit time is 1:00pm and return to Base Camp by 6:00 p.m.

Day 11. - Rest day (day hike options)

Day 12. - Taking our essentials we leave for the high glacier camp of our final mountain, Toclliaraju. It usually takes 6 hours to reach the camp. Our camp, just less than 5000 meters, is perched on the glacier directly under Toclliaraju’s impressive west facet.

Day 13. - An early start! We wake ate 12:00 midnight and after a light breakfast depart for the summit at 2:00am. We work are way across the col and begin the assent up the north ridge. Things get steeper as we climb, with the last 70m being the most exciting! We return to high camp at 2:00pm and after a rest and some hot soup, continue the descent to base camp for a well-deserved dinner.

Day 14. - We sleep in until 9:00am, wake to a delicious pancake breakfast before packing up camp and loading the donkeys for the descent down to Huaraz. There, you'll check into your Hotel and take the best shower of your life. Dinner that night is a celebration banquet, a traditional Pachamanca, held in an even more traditional Peruvian hut.

Day 15. - A day to relax in Huaraz, go shopping, check your email, or go visit the nearby pre-Inca ruins of Chavin.

Day 16. - The bus leaves Huaraz in the morning for Lima at 10am, arriving at the airport (or your hotel) around 7pm.

5 Day Itinerary for Artisonraju Add-on

Note: This itinerary is designed as an addition to the Pisco / Chopicalqui trip which preceeds it, or can accept participants who have completed other climbs in the area during the season, with or without Skyline Adventures. Artisonraju is a technical summit requiring previous experience with climbing systems and vertical ascents & descents and all participants will be screened before approval onto the trip. There is no acclimitization period for this section. You must be well acclimitized before the start date.

Day 1. - Leave Huaraz in the morning for the Paron Valley, a journey of about 3 hours. Begin hiking up the valley towards the mountain. Camp that night at base camp or morraine camp, depending upon group preferences and weather.

Day 2. - Continue the approach to the high camp nestled up on the glacier below Artisonraju's SW face. Set camp and prepare for the next days summit attempt

Day 3. - Summit Attempt! Leave camp at midnight, arrive to the base of the 600 meter face in 1-2 hours, and begin your climb from there. Depending upon snow conditions, the climb and descent can last between 8-12 hours.

Day 4. - Additional Summit Day in case of bad weather, health, etc... Descend to morraine or base camp.

Day 5. - Hike from camp to the road head and meet your transport back to Huaraz. Hot showers await and a tasty .

12 day Itinerary for Santa Cruz / Pisco

Day 1. - We meet at the Lima Airport, collect our luggage and take a taxi through the busy streets of Lima to the Hotel Indiana.

Day 2. - We enjoy 8 hours of Peruvian scenery as we wind our way north east to 3100 meters above sea-level where the town of Huaraz, home to 70,000, is nestled between the Cordillera Blanca (white range) and the Cordillera Negra (black range). Arrive that evening unload and unwind at the hotel.

Day 3. - Meet at the Skyline office to review your itinerary, look at maps, finalize trip. Spend the rest of the day visiting nearby ruins and touring the city.

Day 4. - After breakfast we leave for a 5 hour acclimatization day hike to the turquoise waters of the Laguna Churup.

Day 5. - Depart from Huaraz and drive to the small village of Cashapampa to meet your donkeys and begin your trek up the beautiful Santa Cruz Valley. Hike about 4 hours before setting up camp and settling in for the evening in an area called Llamacorral.

Day 6. - Continue hiking up the valley 5-7 hours towards the first pass of the trek (Punta Union 4750 meters). Camp before the pass near the popular Alpamayo base camp. Optional trip up to see the base camp.

Day 7. - Hike up and over Punta Union and descend to about 4200 meters where a nice camp awaits. Hiking time, 6-7 hours.

Day 8. - Continue your descent to the town of Vaqueria. Transport from Vaqueria over another pass and down to Cebolla Pampa, a beautiful grassy field at the trailhead to Pisco. Spend the rest of your day resting and enjoy an asado (BBQ) that evening for supper!

Day 9. - Begin your ascent up to the Pisco moraine camp (4900 meters), between a 5 – 6 hour hike.

Day 10. - Alpine start! Summit day. We wake up at 2:00am and depart around 3:30am for the summit. A beautiful ridge climbs to the summit where spectacular views of some of the Cordillera's highest peaks abound. Afterwards we'll descend to the base camp for a big dinner.

Day 11. - Descend to the trailhead where we meet our transport. Return to Huaraz about 4pm for showers and a great Celebration Banquet.

Day 12. - Last minute shopping before we head back to Lima and the airport.

Day 5. - Ice climbing at a nearby glacier to test out your equipment, review some basic climbing techniques and glacier travel skills. Acclimatize during the fun, Pastoruri is 5000m.

Day 6. - Depart for the tiny mountain village of Joncopampa where we load our donkeys with our food and supplies. We begin our trek up the valley past an old village where some of the structures and houses are still intact.

Day 7. - Continue up the valley arriving at the spectacular Alquilpo Lake nestled at the foot of the steep dramatic Alquilpo mountain. Camp near the waters edge.

Day 8. - Up and over the high pass dropping down into the Ishinca base Camp where we will meet up with our climbing gear and additional guides for the climb. Camp that night at the Base Camp.

Day 9. - Summit Day!!!! Alpine start. Up at 2:00am and departing for the summit at 4:00am. We work our way through the beautiful alpine tundra to the glacier where we rope up and continue on to the summit. Return to base camp tired and hungry around 4:00pm for a stout dinner.

Day 10. - Pack up our camp and descend down the valley to Huaraz, arriving back mid afternoon. Check into the Hotel for a well-deserved shower and Celebration banquet.

Day 11. - A day to relax in Huaraz, go shopping, check your email, or go visit the nearby pre-Inca ruins of Chavin.

Day 6. - Head out for the small village of Olleros where we meet up with our llamas. After loading them with our supplies we head off camping near a scenic lake.

Day 7. - Hike on up and over the high pass keeping our eyes open for the rare Andean Condor known. We camp that night on the other side of the pass.

Day 8. - Continue on down following the ancient Inca trail system. Around noon we arrive at the Chavin ruins where we spend the afternoon checking out the temples and ancient courtyards. That night we camp near the banks of the Huari River.

Day 9. - Get picked up and drive the scenic route back over the Cordillera. We stop and set up our campsite at the base of Huarapasca.

Day 10. - Up at 5:00 and departing our campsite at 7:00am ascending the glacier to the summit of Huarapasca. We return to cam, load up in the waiting transport and head back to Huaraz that afternoon where we check into the Hotel for well-deserved showers. That night we meet for our Celebration Banquet.

Day 11. - Last minute shopping for family and friends before our 10:00 am departure to lima. Arrive in Lima around 5:00pm.

Day 2. - Enjoy 8 hours of Peruvian scenery as you wind your way north east to 3100 meters above sea-level where the town of Huaraz, home to 70,000, is nestled between the Cordillera Blanca (white range) and the Cordillera Negra (black range). Arrive that evening, unload and unwind at the hotel.

Day 3. - Meet at the Skyline office to review your itinerary, look at maps, finalize trip. Spend the rest of the day visiting nearby ruins and touring the city.

Day 12. Hike down to Cebolla Pampa, REST! Enjoy a nice fresh dinner with your climbing companions.

Day 13. Transport 15 minutes to the Chopicalqui trailhead, hike to morraine camp (6 hours).

Day 14. - Ascend from morraine camp to high camp on the glacier between Chopicalqui and Huascaran! Prepare for the following days summit attempt.

Day 15. - Alpine start! Summit day. Wake up at 1:00am and depart around 2:00am for the summit of Chopicalqui. A spectacular climb to one of most photogenic summit ridges in all of the Cordillera Blanca. Afterwards descend to the morraine camp for a big dinner and a good nights sleep.

Day 16. - Descend to the trailhead, meet your transport. Return to Huaraz about 4pm for showers and a great Celebration Banquet.

Day 17 . - Last minute shopping before heading back to Lima and the airport.
